First Nations Environmental Contaminants Program (FNECP)

Description: The FNECP provides funding to support First Nations communities in addressing the health impacts of environmental hazards. Eligible projects can include community-based research, monitoring, risk assessment, risk communication, and knowledge integration to identify and reduce exposure to contaminants that may affect human health.

Eligibility: The following groups are eligible to apply:

  • First Nations communities recognized under the Indian Act (south of the 60° parallel, including Saskatchewan)

  • Bands, districts, and councils

  • Tribal councils and associations

  • Governments of self-governing First Nations communities and regions

  • First Nations non-governmental and voluntary associations or organizations, including non-profits working on behalf of or in partnership with a First Nation community

  • Note: In British Columbia, applications must be submitted through the First Nations Health Authority Environmental Contaminants Program

How to Apply: Proposals must be developed in partnership with academically trained experts who meet the program’s requirements (for example, MSc or PhD-level scientists for research projects). Applicants should contact program staff to request the Call for Proposals document, discuss project ideas, and receive guidance on the application process. The 2025 deadline is September 22, 2025 at 11:59 pm Mountain Time.

Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF)

Description: CHIF aims to accelerate the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of housing-enabling infrastructure, including drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste management systems.

Eligibility: Indigenous communities, including First Nations in Saskatchewan, are eligible to apply for CHIF funding.

Description: FNCIAS is a First Nations-led, non-profit organization focused on delivering funding and providing essential support for housing and infrastructure to member Nations in Saskatchewan.

Eligibility: First Nations in Saskatchewan can become members of FNCIAS to access sustainable funding and support for infrastructure projects.

Description: This program supports initiatives that enhance cultural, social, and economic development for First Nations and Métis communities in Saskatchewan.

Eligibility: First Nations and Métis communities and organizations in Saskatchewan are eligible to apply.

How to Apply: The next application intake opens on April 1, 2025, and closes on May 31, 2025. Applications can be submitted online during this period.

Community Grant Program

First Nations Environmental Contaminants Program
